Active principles
NICORETTE Semi-transparent Transdermal Patches contains 1.75 mg of nicotine/cm² and is available in the formulations of 10 mg/16 hours (9 cm² surface area), 15 mg/16 hours (13.5 cm² surface area). For the full list of excipients, see section 6.1.

Therapeutic indications
NICORETTE transdermal patches are indicated in the treatment of nicotine addiction and promote smoking cessation in smokers motivated to quit.

Dosage
Dosage : During the administration of NICORETTE transdermal patches the patient should completely stop smoking. Advice and support normally increase the chances of success. Initiate therapy with the 15 mg/16 hour patch using one patch per day for 8 weeks. After 8 weeks the treatment should be gradually reduced by using a 10 mg/16 hour patch daily for another 4 weeks. The treatment should last no more than 3 months. The duration of treatment, however, may vary depending on individual response. We do not recommend using the patch beyond 6 months of therapy. Only some ex-smokers may need prolonged treatment to avoid starting to smoke again. The patch should be applied to an intact surface of the skin as soon as you wake up in the morning and removed in the evening before going to sleep. Pediatric population : NICORETTE transdermal patches should not be administered to persons under 18 years of age. There is not yet sufficient experience of using NICORETTE transdermal patches on this age group. Method of administration: NICORETTE transdermal patches should be applied to a clean, dry, intact and hair-free skin surface, for example on the hip, upper arm or chest. Apply the patch to the chosen skin area, avoiding touching the adhesive part with your fingers and press with the palm of your hand for 10-20 seconds. It is necessary to change the skin surface on which to apply the patch daily and avoid applying it consecutively to the same area. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE. Nicotine administration should be temporarily discontinued if any symptoms of overdose occur (see section 4.9).
